The Challenge
Netflix was looking to design and deploy their new Open Connect Appliances (OCA) for their Content Delivery Network (CDN). The goal of the Netflix Open Connect program is to provide millions of Netflix subscribers the highest-quality viewing experience possible. Netflix has partnered with hundreds of Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to localize substantial amounts of traffic with Open Connect Appliance embedded deployments. The Netflix OCAs are a suite of purpose-built server appliances that store and serve video content as fast as possible. Netflix needed a partner to design, manufacture and handle all the inventory, shipping and logistics for the OCAs. They choose Equus.
The Solution
Utilizing the Netflix Open Connect architecture guidelines, Equus created cost-effective OCAs that include redundant system drives, power supplies, and network interface ports. Various 1U and 2U Intel Xeon® processor-based OCAs have storage ranging from 14TB to 280TB and operational throughput from 9Gbps to 36Gbps.
